The Australian Prayer Network has been moved by God to call the nation of Armenia to unite in prayer. Next month we will send a team of prayer leaders and intercessors to stand with our brothers and sisters in Armenia, the first nation to adopt Christianity. We will host a series of prayer assemblies and seminars, culminating in a National Prayer Breakfast for pastors and leaders to be held in Yerevan on the 24th September.

It is a huge challenge to organise this initiative from the other side of the world. As all praying people know, calling the Church to unite in our own cities and nation requires much persistent prayer. We need your help to dig a well that will stir up a movement of prayer that will flood the nation of Armenia and its surrounding Muslim nations.

Why Armenia? Why now? Why us?

We have a proud ANZAC tradition of laying our lives down for others. With the Gallipoli 100th anniversary come and gone, all is quiet once again on that fateful peninsula. Yet we pledge never to forget the sacrifice of our forebears. There is of course only one sacrifice that can silence the cry of innocent blood shed on the land, that of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Since that day at Calvary when our spiritual foe thought he had won a great victory in nailing the King of Kings to the cross, his horde of darkness has worked ceaselessly to conceal the truth of the coming kingdom of God. Knowing his time is short, the Bible portrays Satan as a devouring lion and an enraged dragon in pursuit of God’s children. One hundred years ago the ‘Devourer’ tried to wipe the first Christian nation from the face of the earth.

“Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?”

Adolf Hitler, August 22nd, 1939

76 years ago on the eve of World War 2 before the invasion of Poland, Hitler addressed his army reassuring them that other nations would not stand in their way. He reasoned that if the Turks could get away with killing two million Armenians, Assyrians and Pontic Greek Christians within the former Ottoman Empire, he could pursue his murderous agenda unchecked from the ‘weak Western’ nations. “You are not to stand idle when your neighbour’s life is at stake. I am the LORD.” Leviticus 19:16 ISV

In the end, Britain gave up its policy of appeasement and led the way to come to the aid of defenceless Poland. But it took six years, six million Jewish lives and sixty million lives altogether to seal the abyss that Hitler opened up.

What about the ‘genocide denial’ key that unlocked the abyss in the first place? Only 20 national parliaments have voted to recognise the Armenian Genocide, but Britain equivocates and President Obama is torn between Congress, which wants recognition, and the US military, afraid of alienating their only NATO Muslim ally. In Australia three state governments have recognised the Genocide, but the Abbott government has told the Turks that Australia does not, even though our digger POWs witnessed it firsthand. This spiritual stronghold of deception can only be demolished using spiritual weapons. “For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.” 2 Corinthians 10:4 ESV

Satan did not succeed in wiping out Armenia. He tried once again to subdue them under Communism when a whole generation were forbidden to worship Christ, with Armenia only becoming an independent nation on 21st September 1991.

Today this small encircled nation battles against economic isolation with closed borders to the east and west. The new generation are hungry for change and many are leaving for a better life. Armenia is in desperate need of a spiritual breakthrough and a revival of its Christian faith.

Who do you need in a battle facing seemingly overwhelming odds? Spiritual ANZACS who’ll take the fight to the enemy and stick up for the underdog. We invite you to join us in prayer for Armenia over the coming month. We’ve launched a website  where you can keep updated and find fuel for your prayers.

You can also make a donation to support the cost of hosting these prayer events by: 1) using the secure PayPal donation button on the website; or 2) transferring directly to Suncorp Bank BSB 484 799, Account: CityHarvest International 045303109; or 3) sending a cheque payable to ‘CityHarvest International’, PO Box 6462, Upper Mt Gravatt, QLD 4122, Australia.
