Subject: “Proud Schools” – please act now
Happy New Year!
Thank you to all NSW supporters who have emailed or posted us signed copies of our open letter to Premier O’Farrell, asking him to cancel the Proud Schools program.
Those responses are encouraging, but we need many more if we hope to change his mind.
Part of our problem is that apart from an article by Miranda Devine in The Daily Telegraph last October, the mainstream media seems to have ignored Proud Schools. The NSW Education Department fobbed off our enquiries. A formal request under Freedom of Information laws resulted in a lot of vague words but nothing about the program content. It all suggests that the government does not want the public to know.
What we do know is that Proud Schools targets “homophobia, transphobia and heterosexism” and that a similar program is now operating in over 70 schools in Victoria. Material associated with the Victorian program – almost certain to be linked with the NSW program – targets Bible teaching about homosexual behaviour as a key cause of so- called “homophobia” (itself a misleading term).
The material tells students that “modern” scriptural interpretation does not condemn homosexual acts.
You may have heard of the new “Queen James Version” of the Bible, written by homosexual activists. It has a rainbow-coloured cross on the cover. It rewords passages such as 1 Corinthians 6: 9-10 to remove sections condemning the actions of “men who have sex with men” or “homosexual offenders”.
Christian teaching says we should hate the sin but love the sinner. There is no excuse for bullying of any kind. But for a state government department to imply that the plain words of the Bible do not mean what they say is a disturbing move which is contrary to the government’s mandate.
If too few speak out against Proud Schools, the program is likely to be implemented in every school throughout the state. State and private primary and high schools in Victoria are already adopting this type of program. It may not be long before such a program is incorporated in the compulsory national curriculum, with even Christian schools required to teach it.
Please sign and add your details to a copy of the attached open letter to the NSW Premier, and forward this email to others, encouraging them to sign as well. If you have a scanner, you can scan your signed letter, turn it into a pdf and email it back to us.
Or you can print out the letter, sign and add your details, then post it back to us at FamilyVoice Australia, GPO Box 9894, Sydney NSW 2001.
We plan to personally deliver the signed letters to Premier Barry O’Farrell, as well as all other state MPs, as soon as we receive a significant number.
We urgently need your support, prayers and action – for our children and grandchildren’s sake.
