We thank God for the many ‘Night of Prayer for Australia’ gatherings across Australia last weekend called by the Australian Prayer Network. Now we are looking forward to celebrating Christian Heritage Sundaythis weekend. In this Good News Update we want to encourage you tokeep praying for Australia.
Paul, the Apostle, says in 1 Thessalonians 5:17, “Pray without ceasing“. Jesus said in Luke 18:1, “Men ought always to pray and not give up”.
So it is with great excitement that we invite you once again to participate in this year’s National Day of Prayer & Fasting to be held on Sunday 15 February 2015. This Australia-wide day of prayer is followed by 40 Days of Prayer & Fasting from Ash Wednesday 18 February to Palm Sunday 29 March 2015.
Over the past five years, the Canberra Declaration has been a main proponent of the National Day of Prayer & Fasting. The first National Day of Prayer & Fasting, on 24 July 2011, was proposed by Christian leaders who met at aCanberra Declaration Prayer and Strategic Planning Consultation. This took place in Parliament House, Canberra on 28 February 2011. In response to God’s leading, those gathered knelt on the floor together and prayed. With a great a sense of urgency, they made a unanimous decision to proceed with such an event.
Since then these annual events have been excellent opportunities to pray for our three focus areas of Religious Freedom, Marriage and Family and Human Life.
The National Day of Prayer & Fasting 2015 will be celebrated in our nation’s capital in a prayer service on 15 February from 10AM to 4PM in the Great Hall of Parliament House. The theme this year is DESTINY and the celebration of our Christian heritage. Please watch this 2-minute video to learn more.
You can view the event on the 15 February via a live webcast which can be accessed at the website on the day. The full six-hour service can also be seen on an historic live telecast on the Trinity Broadcasting Network.
This concert of prayer for Australia is gaining momentum each year. This year there will be many pre-eventsheld in different states, cities, regions, and rural locations around Australia in the week leading up to the National Day. Check here to see if there is one in your state or area.
This multiplication of prayer and fasting for the revival of God’s people and the transformation of Australia is very exciting. Jonathan Edwards, the famous American 18th century preacher, said, “When God has something very great to accomplish for His church …. He will begin by remarkably pouring out the spirit of grace and supplication (Zech. 12:10)”.
We are hearing wonderful reports of more and more churches celebrating the National Day of Prayer & Fasting as well as stories of new prayer initiatives springing up all across the nation. We believe this is a sign that God is working in our midst.
There are many ways to celebrate the National Day of Prayer & Fasting. We invite individuals, fellowship groups and local churches to take part. Here are some ways you or your fellowship group or church can be involved on 15 February:

Jesus said in Mark 11:24,“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours”. So let us continue in prayer, believing together for revival and transformation of our nation, for the glory of God.
