National Day of Thanksgiving Saturday 31st May 2014

HOW ONE CHURCH WILL BE CELEBRATING THE NATIONAL DAY OF THANKSGIVING

As more and more Churches across Australia understand the potential that the National Day of Thanksgiving is as a vehicle for the outreach program of their congregation many Churches are creatively involving their whole congregation in the activities of the day. Following is how one Church plans their celebration of the day. The whole church gets involved. From the children through to the youth group and on to home groups and other special interest groups across the congregation, all are encouraged to do something creative to say thank you to others in the community. Many amazing acts of kindness to others flow from this creativity which results in quite a buzz within the whole Church itself.

Every ministry in the church is asked to do something and as well, individuals are asked to give thanksgiving cards to neighbours or others in the community they wish to thank. The Church purchases bulk suppliers of thanksgiving day resources which are then broken down and sold as small packs of cards, ribbons etc for individuals to use to say thank you to others. The women of the church are asked to make cakes, for inclusion in the morning tea packs which will be delivered to various groups in the community being thanked this year. Even the worship team gets involved by going and providing a mini concert to the residents of a local nursing home. During the Sunday service Thanksgiving Certificates will be given to especially invited members of the public that the Church wants to thank for their service to the community.

How is your Church going to celebrate our National Day of Thanksgiving?  We would love to hear some of the creative ways others are celebrating this national day.  Please drop us a line at info@thanksgiving.org.au  whether you represent a Church, an independent group or even an individual.  We would love to be able to tell more stories or how people are creatively using the day. Even if it is just one event we would love to hear about it.

NOW IS THE TIME TO ORGANISE YOUR BREAKFASTS AND MORNING TEAS

Holding community breakfasts on Saturday 31st May to say thank you to those being honoured this year is a very public and important way of the Church to show leadership in your community. If taking this course be sure to also invite your Mayor, Local Councillors, and local Federal and State Members of Parliament and leaders of community organisations. Morning teas are the best method of saying “Thank You” within the workplace. They are usually held in the week leading up to the NDOT after obtaining permission from the head of the organisation you are honouring. These are much less formal than breakfasts and are the best way of showing the Churches appreciation for those engaged at the coal face of serving and caring for the local community.

Don’t forget to order your “Thank You” ribbons to pin on those you are thanking and “NDOT Stick-on Badges” to be worn by those from your Church or group doing the thanking. Let us make an impact on our nation this NDOT by leaving no stone unturned to show our communities the love, compassion and care of Jesus as expressed through His people.
