NATIONAL DAY OF THANKSGIVING 2014 DATE

The National Day of Thanksgiving (NDOT) 2014 will be held on Saturday 31st May.

We are aware that this year the National Day of Thanksgiving falls on a long weekend in Western Australia. If this presents a problem to folk in that State, freedom is given to hold events on the weekend before or after, as best suits local circumstances.

FOCUS FOR 2014

Each year we provide a focus to help churches and individuals find ways to celebrate and show appreciation to others.  In 2014 the suggested focus includes two primary groups.

Transport and Travel

We are thanking people who work in the transport and travel industries.  This would include bus, train, tram, taxi, and truck drivers.  Also, pilots, transport companies, couriers, and travel agents.

Neighbours

On the personal level, we are encouraging people to thank their neighbours.  In our view the concept of neighbours goes beyond the person next door to include those who, through their thoughtfulness and kindness, contribute in any way to make our lives more pleasant.

Churches that have not previously been involved with the National Day of Thanksgiving will find our Church Participation Information   helpful in understanding how to become involved and the resources that are available to assist in celebrating the day in their community. Again this year we are providing Schools with their own kit as a way of encouraging them to understand how they can use the day in promoting thanksgiving to their students, but also, by undertaking acts of kindness in the community, showcase their values to the community at large.  Whether you are a Principal, Teacher, Chaplain, or a Parent wanting to encourage your child’s school to become involved, we encourage you to go to our website at www.thanksgiving.org.au and order a School Kit which will be electronically transmitted to you free of charge.
