FREE CARE FOR PALESTINIAN CHILDREN IN ISRAEL

A top Israeli medical centre and a Christian organization that ministers to Palestinian refugees have launched a new project, “Rescue the Child,” to provide free medical care to Palestinian babies and children from the West Bank and Gaza. “It is such a move of God to reach out in love and compassion to these children, who were dying and had such little hope,” says Karen Dunham, director of Living Bread Church International. “Isn’t it like God to team up a Christian organization and a Jewish hospital to show love to the enemies of Israel during this time?” “That’s what Jesus did, reached out to the least of these. There are no borders that the Lord cannot move,” she says.

Dunham received a green light from the chairman of the Assaf Haroef Medical Centre in late January and has already begun moving children in need of attention. “Living Bread will be moving the patients to them and back to Gaza,” Dunham notes. “It is an amazing door of love God is opening up.” Some may be startled by the fact that Israel will extend medical aid to people that some consider their enemies. “Israel will be caring for children of families that threw missiles at them—this is very big news in the heavenly realm,” Dunham notes. “Love will not fail.”

“Living Bread can use volunteers for this huge undertaking to pray over the patients and visit them in the hospital and help return them to Gaza Strip. All the follow-up care must be done by Living Bread and its volunteers,” Dunham says. “Rescue the Child” will provide medical care for babies and children from the West Bank and Gaza badly in need of assistance due to lack of medical capabilities in these areas. In 2003, Dunham met an evangelistic Catholic priest, Father George, who amazed her when he said, “Go to Jericho and feed the people and win the whole city for Jesus.”

The Holy Spirit gripped her soul when he said those words. Immediately she knew that she and her son must move to Jericho. At the time, there were no Americans in Jericho. “The only woman who would rent me a house was in one of the refugee camps who desperately needed money,” Dunham recalls. Some of her friends expressed anger when she said she wanted to move into Jericho to feed hungry Palestinians. “Why would God tell you to feed the enemy?” they asked. Since then, Dunham has survived numerous fire bombings of her home and attempts on her life. She has also won unusual favour from Israelis and Palestinians.

She has become widely recognized for her acts of compassion, ministering in refugee camps in Jericho and Gaza. Media sources have  referred to her as a “Mother Theresa in Israel.” Aharon Cholow, who has worked with Christians and Jews to raise support for Assaf Haroef Medical Centre, is Dunham’s principal contact. The medical centre, a teaching hospital with a global reach, is associated with the Tel Aviv University Sackler Faculty of Medicine. “I believe that as an Israeli citizen we always have a right to defend ourselves from any aggression, However, we will always stretch out our hand for peace and show compassion to the suffering of children,” Cholow noted.

ISRAEL SETS UP FIELD HOSPITAL FOR SYRIANS

Israel has reportedly established a large field hospital in the northern Golan Heights to treat Syrian’s wounded in that country’s ongoing civil war. In recent weeks, 11 Syrians have crossed into Israel after being wounded in fierce gun battles between rebels and those forces still loyal to dictator Bashar Assad. Until now, the wounded have all been taken to Ziv Hospital in the northern town of Safed. Eight have been successfully treated and returned to Syria, while three remain in Israel for ongoing treatment. Israeli officials expect the number of wounded crossing the border to increase significantly as the fighting moves closer to the frontier, hence the need for a field hospital.

This news once again refutes claims that Israel is a racist, apartheid state that hates Arabs. In fact, Israel is the only state in the region that would go out of its way to help wounded citizens from a neighbouring nation with which it is still officially at war.

ANTI SEMITISM ON THE RISE IN EUROPE

According to a Tel Aviv University study, 2012 was marked by 686 acts of violence and vandalism constituting a 30% increase over 2011. The report supports the notion that “anti-Semitism breeds anti-Semitism,” said Dr. Moshe Kantor, European Jewish Congress president who added that the best prevention is for authorities “to act quickly and forcefully to prevent such escalations in the future.” Of considerable note is the rise of anti-Semitic parties on the far Right in Greece, Hungary and the Ukraine. “Almost every week we witness an attack on minorities or outrageous comments from far Right and neo-Nazi politicians,” Kantor said.

HAMAS CRACKS DOWN ON WESTERN LIFESTYLE

The latest in a series of moves by Hamas authorities against perceived Western lifestyle tendencies has been the arrest and beating of young men with “immodest” haircuts, according to a statement by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights. The statement said the Islamist terror militia which rules the Gaza Strip released the men after having them sign a document pledging not to appear in Western-style haircuts or wear low-waist pants. Recently, the UN cancelled a Gaza Strip marathon after Hamas barred women from participation.
