More than 15% of Venezuelans eat garbage to survive, according to a new study and many Venezuelans have opted to leave the country rather than scrounge around for food, journalist Andrea Gonzalez says.  “The situation is terrible right now in Venezuela,” Gonzalez said. “It’s very sad that people are looking for food in garbage.” What’s more, 53.9% of Venezuelan respondents said they had gone to bed hungry, whilst 48% say they have been forced to take time off work to scrounge for food. “In Venezuela, there is a dictatorial regime where there is no liberty and human rights are violated, where people who do not belong to the regime of  President Nicolas Maduro are put in jail and tortured, as in the case of opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez.

The Venezuelan opposition leader was tortured like the other prisoners of conscience by Maduro’s criminal regime,” Gonzalez says. “On the other side is the humanitarian crisis due to lack of food and lack of medicines. There are children dying due to the lack of medicines, and many have also died from lack of food. Children and adults are dying from malnutrition.” The Venezuelan hunger crisis has been on the rise since Maduro implemented a socialist rations system two years ago. Earlier this year, he put armed guards in charge of the food supply system. “This is now a completely militarized government,” Luis Manuel Esculpi, a security analyst and former head of the armed forces commission in the congress said. “The army is Maduro’s only source of authority.”

CNN reports the population cried at the mere site of food when they crossed into Colombia to purchase basic stock items. Some residents are so hungry they’ve reportedly broken into zoos in the middle of the night to eat the animals. “Venezuela is burning – and we’re overlooking the root cause of its crisis,” according to U.S. News and World Report. Communications director at Americans for Prosperity – Florida Andres Malave, a native Venezuelan, points to the evils of socialism that have rotted the country from inside out.

Malave writes:  I read the messages telling me they had to go to five different markets to find bread. Even basic staples like Harina-Pan are missing from the shelves or skyrocketing in price. I’ve heard them break down crying because they lack basic needs like toilet paper. And I hear the fear of not knowing what’s next or when these struggles will end. In the midst of this chaos, I see people in the United States – most of whom have never known a life outside of the abundance available to them as a result of our market economy – gravitating toward socialism like it’s some natural force for good. A recent survey shows that nearly 60% of 18 to 26 year-olds believe socialism is the “most compassionate system.”

But socialism is not compassionate. Whether a socialist government owns the means of production via nationalized industries, or enforces central planning via price controls and stringent regulatory structures, socialism operates under the assumption that an insulated leader and his legion of bureaucrats are the best judges of what people are worth. And while starving men and women dig through the trash just to feed their families, the West seems to largely ignore one of the greatest hunger crises of our generation. “It is very sad. Only God can change my country,” Gonzalez says.

Muslim-American groups are applauding President Barack Obama’s nomination of a Washington lawyer to serve in U.S. District Court – a move that could make him the first ever Muslim-American federal judge, according to advocates. If confirmed, Abid Riaz Qureshi would sit on the District of Columbia’s federal bench, the White House has announced. Qureshi, who graduated Harvard Law School in 1997, is a partner in the D.C. office of Latham & Watkins LLP, specializing in healthcare fraud, securities violations, and cases involving the False Claims Act, according to a White House statement. “I am confident he will serve the American people with integrity and a steadfast commitment to justice,” Obama said.

Muslim-American organizations hailed the historic announcement. “The nomination of Abid Qureshi to fill a seat on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia sends a message of inclusion that is welcomed by the American Muslim community and by all Americans who value diversity and mutual respect at a time when some seek division and discord,” Nihad Awad, national executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a civil rights group, said in a statement. While Muslim Americans have filled roles as state judges, none have served at the federal trial or appellate levels, according to Muslim Advocates, a national legal advocacy organization.

“A judiciary that reflects the rich diversity of our nation helps ensure the fair and just administration of the law, and it is vital for American Muslims to be included,” Farhana Khera, former counsel to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee and executive director of Muslim Advocates, said in a statement. “Mr. Qureshi’s profound commitment to the rule of law and justice for people of all backgrounds makes him an exceptional nominee.” News of Qureshi’s nomination comes amid a heated presidential race in which Muslims have found themselves the subject of much debate, including GOP nominee Donald Trump’s proposal of a temporary ban on Muslims entering the country.

With a few months left before Obama’s term ends, it remains unclear whether Qureshi’s nomination will make it out of Congress. Jamie C. Glick, a spokesperson for Latham & Watkins, told NBC News in an email that Qureshi was unavailable for comment. Bill Voge, chair and managing partner of Latham & Watkins, congratulated Qureshi on his nomination and in a statement called him an exceptional litigator. “He practices with the highest level of integrity and has made significant contributions to our firm, particularly with respect to Latham’s pro bono program which he has led as global chair since 2012,” Voge said.

On the frontline of what some call a new Muslim invasion of Europe, Eastern European leaders have taken very hard-line, politically incorrect stances against the migrant influx. And they aren’t shy about stating their belief that Islam does not belong in Christian Europe. Hungary has built a 175-kilometer razor-wire fence along its southern border, deploying 10,000 police and soldiers and is reportedly recruiting 3,000 “border-hunters” equipped with pepper spray and loaded pistols, according to journalist Gwynne Dyer. He reports one European leader as saying, “Hungary is not far away from issuing orders to open fire on refugees.”

“Those arriving have been raised in another religion, and a radically different culture. Most of them are Muslims, not Christians. European identity is rooted in Christianity,” Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban wrote in a German newspaper. Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico has said that Islam has no place in his country and that Muslim migrants cannot be allowed to “change the character of our country.” He also said, “The idea of multicultural Europe has failed. Muslims cannot be integrated, it’s simply impossible.” Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski, said that “an individual who arrives in Poland must demonstrate that they can integrate in our culture and society. Christian refugees have more potential to assimilate.”

Austrian Cardinal Christoph Schonborn says that many Muslims wish for another conquest of Europe. In a recent sermon, the Viennese Archbishop asked, “Is this a third Islamic attempt to conquer Europe? Many Muslims say that Europe is at the end.” Hungary’s Orban has asked Hungarians to show the same courage as their ancestors “in the war against the Ottoman armies.” After the fall of Constantinople in 1453, much of Eastern Europe’s Christian population spent centuries under Muslim occupation. Today’s Eastern European leaders, most of whom grew up under communist oppression, seem determined not to allow Europe’s history with Islam to repeat itself.

It’s an intercession and missions partnership that could help see the Gospel preached in every nation. International House of Prayer of Kansas City (IHOPKC) has joined with Youth With a Mission (YWAM) in a new commitment to cover global missions in prayer. The partnership was birthed at the end of a week-long gathering of thousands of YWAM and IHOPKC staff that focused on several Great Commission thrusts, including providing Scripture in every language, and a commitment to seeing every sphere of society impacted with the Gospel. Mike Bickle took the challenge from Loren Cunningham, co-founder of YWAM, to help raise up 1 million intercessors to cover their global missions in prayer.

“We love what the Lord has done through Loren and Darlene Cunningham and the whole YWAM family for over 50 years, and we are committing to cover them in intercession for the great cause of advancing the Kingdom in the nations” Bickle said. Now, IHOPKC is taking its commitment to pray for YWAM to a new level to see the Gospel advanced in all nations and to call other prayer ministries throughout the world to join in. Darlene Cunningham, YWAM co-founder with her husband Loren, responded with gratefulness, “The practice of intercession – hearing from God and praying His prayers – is part of the core DNA of YWAM from the beginning,” Cunningham said “We need it, and I am so thankful that IHOPKC is joining us in the great endeavour.”

Donald Trump has welcomed a pro-life advocate to head up his campaign’s pro-life coalition. The Republican presidential candidate also released a decidedly pro-life agenda. Trump has made the most unequivocal pro-life commitment that any presidential candidate has ever made. If elected, Trump has committed to nominating pro-life Supreme Court justices, signing into law the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, defunding Planned Parenthood as long as they continue to perform abortions, and to making the Hyde Amendment a permanent law, making sure taxpayer dollars do not go to funding abortions.

News contributor Bryan Fischer notes that this means Trump plans to uphold the Constitution’s protection of the right to life. If Trump were to defund Planned Parenthood, the $534 million the organization receives every year would be redirected to fund women’s health centres which provide comprehensive healthcare. Fischer notes that these pro-life pledges are validated by Trump’s appointment of Marjorie Dannenfelser to his campaign. Dannenfelser is the head of the pro-life organization the Susan B. Anthony List and has led the pro-life cause for over two decades. She is thus a bold choice for Trump’s campaign, and as Fischer notes, leaves no doubt about the message he is trying to communicate.

Italy’s Supreme Court has ruled masturbating in public is not a crime as long as minors aren’t present to see it. What sparked the Supreme Court to rule on such perversion? A 69-year-old man called “PL” was caught masturbating in front of students at the University of Catania. For this perverted act, he was fined about $3,600 and sentenced to three months in prison – and he boldly challenged the sentence all the way up to Italy’s highest court. Sadly, perversion wins again, and PL’s case sets a new precedent. Now, men can commit this lewd act for the world to see, as long as they are over 18 years old. If a minor happens to see the act, though, the pervert might land in jail for up to four and a half years.
