1, The View from the Pulpit.
This sign is fixed to the pew in the middle of the front row at the Baptist Church in Launceston Tasmania. It’s a quote from John 12:21. It’s a rare and permanent message from the congregation to the preacher.
The church building is quite old and once belonged to a Congregational fellowship.
The sign left me pondering how it came to be there. It’s a reminder of the high calling of preaching, standing orders from the congregation to the preacher.
The Greeks who originally asked this question of Philip did not ask to be told about Jesus, they wanted to see Jesus for themselves.
Our people generally love sound theology and good Bible knowledge, but like the sign says, some could be still hanging out for a real and personal encounter with Jesus.

What are our congregations, and more importantly, our potential congregations really looking for?
Lets seek to lead others into their own personal experience with the Holy Spirit, that they would indeed see Jesus.
For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 1 Cor 2:2

2017 Sunrise Prayer Relay Feedback.
Thank you for partnering with us in prayer at sunrise on New Year’s Day 2017
Christians in hundreds of locations in at least 23 nations prayed the Lord’s Prayer together in unity around the world. And it all stated here in the Illawarra last year!
Unity is diversity in harmony and it is beautiful to see all the different locations participating in their own ways but all in perfect harmony as we pray together “Your kingdom come and Your will be done…” together in unity like a mighty wave from the east to the west.
We will never know fully how many people, locations or nations were a part of this Sunrise Prayer Relay but we do know that God heard every prayer and He is faithful to answer every prayer according to His will for His Glory.
He says “You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your Heart.” Jeremiah 29:13
He says “I love those who love me; and those who seek me find me.” Proverbs 8:17
Let’s seek God in 2017

4. Hang on Tight, our World is Changing:
Donald Trump Inauguration:
The President Elect of the USA Donald Trump, amongst the demonstrations during his inauguration, swore the oath on two Bibles, and earlier on the day had close contact with Christian leaders.
The sermon at the main event was personal, short, clear, strong and challenging. It was about Nehemiah rebuilding the wall around Jerusalem.
Main points:
Nehemiah Refused To Allow His Critics To Distract Him
Nehemiah Refused To Allow Setbacks To Stop Him
Nehemiah Sought God’s Help To Empower Him
Trumps early behaviours are however sending very mixed messages.
A Warning from Russia:
The West Is In Decline Because it Rejected Christianity – Only Russia Gets It
“Many Euro-Atlantic countries have moved away from their roots, including Christian values,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a recent keynote speech. “Policies are being pursued that place on the same level a multi-child family and a same-sex partnership, a faith in God and a belief in Satan. This is the path to degradation.”
Mr. Putin’s views of the West were echoed this month by Patriarch Kirill I of Moscow, the leader of the Orthodox Church, who accused Western countries of engaging in the “spiritual disarmament” of their people.
“Vladimir Putin, who witnessed the death of Marxism-Leninism up close, appears to understand the cruciality of Christianity to Mother Russia, and seeks to revive the Orthodox Church and write its moral code back into Russian law.”
