How does my Church compare? Is it visitor friendly?

Comparing and Learning from Other Churches.
After visiting approximately 30 churches recording testimonies for ‘Everyday Miracles’ on Pulse 94.1, I felt like the ”secret shopper”! It’s been a wonderful and ongoing experience of the diversity and treasures within the local Body of Christ.
Often I found myself reflecting “Would this be a church I’d bring my friends to?”
I had a ‘feeling’ but it was hard to understand exactly why I felt that way
One local pastor was nonthreatened enough to ask questions about what I’d learnt in my travels, including what makes ‘a visitor friendly church’.
Here’s my brief (very subjective) summary of being a visitor friendly church:
People are smiling, full of joy, chatty, and ‘normal’.
Everyone wants to be your friend.
There is no hint of a doctrinal grid to pass through before being accepted.
Church is not all about programmes, it’s personal and easy to relate to.
The time frames meet the felt needs of the people, ie for age, children, families etc.
Sermons are clear, short and not modelled on Bible College lectures.
All language and routine used is contemporary. The Bible used is plain English.
Absolutely everything that happens is intentionally visitor friendly.
A visitor is not a ‘notch on someone’s belt’.
And most importantly, there is something wonderful and ‘other worldly’ happening
Why not visit some other churches and pick up some good ideas?
We are all doing something well

Illawarra For Jesus
The Facebook Page “Illawarra Combined Churches Events & Corporate Prayer”
has had a name change to Illawarra for Jesus  (Between the Mountains and the Sea).
The page serves the same purpose and is a great way of telling others about news, events and prayer items that relate to our region.

Prayer Events:
Concerning the following 4 prayer events below, they are driven by a Spirit led hunger to see Heaven invade Earth
“It is God’s will through His wonderful grace, that the prayers of His saints should be one of the great principal means of carrying on the designs of Christ’s kingdom in the world. When God has something very great to accomplish for His church, it is His will that there should precede it the extraordinary prayers of His people; as is manifest by Ezekiel 36:37. and it is revealed that, when God is about to accomplish great things for His church, He will begin by remarkably pouring out the spirit of grace and supplication (see Zechariah 12:10).”
~ Jonathan Edwards

March: Greater Wollongong Region Anglican Outreach
Jesus Is____. Mission in Anglican Churches
During March,  Anglican churches and schools throughout Sutherland, Macarthur, Southern Highlands, Illawarra and the Shoalhaven regions are taking part in a mission using the concept Jesus Is___. The purpose of the mission is to provide opportunities for people to hear about Jesus and respond to the Good News of the Gospel. Of equal importance, is the training, equipping and encouraging of followers of Jesus in having conversations with people about Jesus. Or to put this another way – growing in confidence and skills in chatting with people about Jesus and how following Jesus shapes how we live.
To this end the Jesus Is___.  concept (with associated website & social media possibilities) was chosen as a framework for the mission. The mission will include a partnership with Moore Theological College as teams of students and faculty will be based in churches for the week 18-25th March.
A major regional for high school students called  ‘Free to Be’, will be held at the WIN Entertainment Centre on Friday 23 MarchFollow link for details.
