This is an abridged version of Australian News due to the absence overseas of our editorial team on an International prayer assignment. There will be no Australian News next week but Australian News will resume on Wednesday 15th November 2017.
With voting in the plebiscite finishing next week this is the conclusion of our season of continuous prayer. Thank you to all who have faithfully prayer with us over the past 8 weeks. We await now for the announcement of the final vote on 15th November.
“For I hate divorce! Says the Lord, the God of Israel. To divorce your wife is to overwhelm her with cruelty, says the Lord of heaven’s armies. So guard your heart, do not be unfaithful to your wife.” (NIV)
“The man who hates and divorces his wife, says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘does violence to the one he should protect,’ says the Lord Almighty. So be on your guard, and do not be unfaithful.” (NLT)
As we see there are different ways to translate this verse…is it the Lord who hates divorce or is it the man who hates and divorces his wife who does violence to the one he should protect? Could it be both? Surely our Lord who established the marriage covenant and who hates sin would hate the breakdown of what He has declared as a covenant for life. And surely we can see the evidence of the cruelty and violence that divorce has wreaked on our lives and our society and the breakdown of the family.
Where we have not hated what God hates…Where we have been guilty of doing violence by pursuing divorce and not protecting our spouses…Where we have been unfaithful…Where we can see the consequences of our breaking of faith in our lives, families and society. Forgive us Lord!
* A fresh outpouring of the holiness of God over the Shepherds and priesthood of believers to hate what God hates and to love what God loves when it comes to marriage and family.
* Mercy, restoration and healing wherever the act of divorce has left spouses and children wounded, unprotected, abandoned, suffering, and with broken hearts.
We declare that in this season of prayer the Lord will bring a distinction between those who fear Him and those who don’t…those who honour Him and those who don’t, those who are righteous and those who are wicked, and those who serve Him and those who don’t. In this season, for those who revere His name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings and the righteous will go out and leap like calves released from the stall, trampling down the wicked spiritual forces of darkness under the soles of our feet. (Malachi 3:16-4:3)
