4. Humour

1.  In this season of our church calendar, we remember the few weeks when Jesus appeared to His disciples and spoke about the kingdom of God. He told them to sit tight in Jerusalem until they had been empowered to minister.

What can we learn from this time?
1. Jesus’ focus was the kingdom of God
2. The disciples were to later declare (and demonstrate) the presence of the kingdom of God and to teach about Jesus (see Acts 8:12, Acts 19:8, Acts 28:23,31)
3. Jesus told the disciples to hold back on ministry till supernaturally empowered. (Or in Aussie lingo… ‘keep your mouth shut and your hands in your pockets till the Holy Spirit fills you’)

2. City Serve Feedback (from Shane Cook).
The statistics (follow link)

Hi pastors just a quick update from our latest CityServe project, 10 Churches represented by 120 volunteers. I must say it was the most significant serve event I have been a part of, congratulations to the Churches from the Albion Park/Rail area for a fantastic effort. We had a Councillor come and give a few hours this was their comment…”It was great to work as part of a team of enthusiastic people. We were truly blessed with the weather. I look forward to working on the next project. Community spirit and the Holy Spirit are alive and well in our city.” We also had one of the senior directors volunteer most of their day to work alongside the volunteers and his comment was….”Thanks again to CityServe for yet another successful & blessed event! Kind regards”

In the Kingdom of God, wealth is measured in giving, not having.

Eight northern Illawarra churches are combining to present a program designed to shed light on 3 of the 10 big questions that the world outside has for the church.

From the website:

Leading Christian thinkers defuse the ‘belief blockers’ of our time.

Christian faith is often accused of being illogical and unreasonable. Are there valid responses to these views?

We invite you to Bulli Workers Club on Monday nights in May as we explore some of these issues. Come and join us at 7pm for the $10 Chicken Schnitzel, or arrive in time to grab a drink and watch a half hour DVD starting at 7.30pm. After the DVD there will be opportunity for discussion around the table and explore any thoughts or questions that may arise.
