This week in Brisbane, ACL’s Queensland director Wendy Francis hosted a panel of experts and state parliamentarians to discuss Australia’s crisis in child well being. The night was a great success with around 100 people in attendance and highly knowledgeable and experienced guest speakers, including Queensland’s state opposition leader Annastacia Palaszczuk. ACL’s Managing Director Lyle Shelton reviews the event and Australia’s child protection system in his weekly column. The case of Meriam Yahya Ibrahim, a Sudanese Christian woman who has been sentenced to death for apostasy, has captured the world’s attention, particularly this week as she gave birth to a baby girl in a prison clinic. Christian and human rights organisations around the world have collected hundreds of thousands of signatures calling for Mrs Ibrahim’s release. We encourage you to email the Sudanese Ambassador and our Foreign Minister Julie Bishop calling for her release. See the article on this case for instructions on how to do this. Have a blessed week.
